Benedetto Pignatti Morano was born in Rome in 1960 and currently lives and works in the Eternal City. He never considered becoming an artist and studied economics, statistics and business and was involved primarily in finance and financial reporting. He has lived over time in Rome, Milan, London, New York, Madrid, Argentario and travelled obsessively around the world, recording unconsciously sensations, colors and lights that remained engrained in his conscience.

At the end of the ‘80s, at a time when he was abandoning city life for a long period of time, his friend and inspirator Alessandra Bruno makes him a present of a watercolor set – the one that he still uses today – asserting that under the cloak of the accountant there lay a strong artistic side waiting to come out. Not being able to draw, the present was rather daring but perhaps revealing.

A quarter of a century later, in which watercolors represented only an occasion for introspection and peace, the artistic encounter with another old friend, Francesca Giudice, then a housewife with a penchant for photography, led to the birth of a joint artistic project in which photography and watercolor are accomplices in the search for a shared, intimate view of Milan. The resulting show – Milano a due mani / Milan two-hand piece, February 2016 – was a first for both, and ended up making watercolors taking a primary role in Benedetto Pignatti Morano’s life.

Collaboration with Francesca continues on the theme of Milan and its romantic side, with the ongoing contamination of ideas that will hopefully lead to another show in the near future.

Milano a due Mani also marked the beginning of a phase in which experimentation focused both on urban life, extending to Rome the attention so far devoted to Milan, the human figure and portraits, trying to find a personal perspective to the multi-faceted metropolis and its many souls. This initially led to a small and intimate show on and in the neighborhood of Testaccio, a hard-core Roman quarter which offered so much inspiration that he actually decided to set up camp in it and establish his studio in the heart of it. The process continues and will lead to another show focusing on the many facets of the Eternal City and its inhabitants, from the city center to the more authentic neighborhoods.

Benedetto Pignatti Morano è nato a Roma nel 1960 dove vive e lavora. Non ha mai pensato di fare l’artista ed ha fatto studi di Economia, Statistica e Business occupandosi nella vita principalmente di finanza e comunicazione finanziaria. È vissuto in ordine sparso a Roma, Milano, Londra, New York, Madrid, Monte Argentario e viaggiato ossessivamente per il mondo, incamerando inconsciamente sensazioni, colori e luci che sono rimaste sopite nella sua coscienza.

Alla fine degli anni ’80, nel momento in cui si consuma un abbandono della vita cittadina che durerà qualche anno, l’amica e inspiratrice Alessandra Bruno gli regala la scatola di acquarelli – quella che continua a usare tuttora – sostenendo che sotto la scorza del contabile si celava in realtà una forte sensibilità artistica. Non sapendo disegnare, il regalo era quanto mai azzardato ma forse rivelatore.

Un quarto di secolo dopo, durante il quale l’acquarello ha rappresentato un momento di intimità e di pace, l’incontro mediatico con un’altra vecchia amica, Francesca Giudice, casalinga dell’arte visiva, fa nascere un progetto di competizione e complicità fra foto e acquarello che sfocerà in una mostra a e su Milano – Milano a due mani, Febbraio 2016, la prima per entrambe – e farà riprendere al filone artistico il suo ruolo primario.

La collaborazione con Francesca Giudice continua – sempre sul tema di una Milano intima – con una grossa contaminazione di idee che influenzano entrambe e che porteranno probabilmente ad un’altra mostra in un futuro prossimo.

Milano a due Mani segna però l’inizio un processo di ricerca che esplora sia il tema della vita cittadina, estendendo a Roma l’attenzione finora dedicata a Milano, che quello delle figure umane e dei ritratti, nel tentativo di trovare un angolo personale per ritrarre una città dalle molte facce e dalle molte anime.  Questo percorso sfocia inizialmente in una piccola ed intima mostra a e su Testaccio – quartiere romano per eccellenza – Testaccio in 10 acquerelli 10, giugno 2019, ispirazione che porterà più tardi a scegliere di fare base nel quartiere con uno studio dove lavorare e mostrare le opere.

Il processo di esplorazione visiva continua a porterà prossimamente ad una mostra sulle molte facce della città eterna e le molte anime dei suoi abitanti, dal centro ai rioni di periferia.
